hi it seems that my lab has some kind of lytic ohage contamination from some where. does anyone have any good cleaning ideas to get rid of them? we autoclaved the pipetts and cleaned all surfaces with 2%sds and it seems to not help. we work in a laminal flow hood. can there be some type if contamination in the fans of that?
Contamination byh airborne phages like T1 can be a real nuisance. One way to avoid the problem is to work with TonB strains of E. coli, which are resistant to T1. Otherwise, it may be a good idea to change or sterilize the filters of your laminar flow cabinet, if this is where you perform manipulations.
I think HEPA filter are not suitable for phages, we have same problem in our lab, so one way is to sterilize filters or work on bench with fire. we discuss now both variants, lets see
