In an experiment with cardiomyocytes, each recorded cell was exposed to three different conditions. A) was a basal recording, B) was a low dose of a drug, and C) was a high dose of a drug. Every single cell responded quite linearly to the different conditions, meaning C was higher than B, was higher than A. However, within each group, there's quite a lot of variance. This means that if I graph the data with a dot and box plot, it looks like there's very little difference between the groups, while in reality, the response of each individual cell is increased by an average of 90% when going from A to C. I feel like most of the advice I've been able to find concerns itself with data from two independent groups. What is the best practice for visually representing data that is linked?
