Do/Should you spray/wipe the outside of an ongoing cell culture flask (i.e. with cell+culture media in flask) with any type of disinfectant before place into Biosafety Cabinet (BSC)? What do you use?

I have been in 2 research labs

First lab:

Use Bacdown to spray/wipe all supplies including outside of flask before place into biosafety cabinet, but always treat outside of flask as non-sterile

Was told Bacdown is better than 70% ethanol, but never really explained why it is better or if it is suitable for disinfecting cell culture flask.

Later realized all the research paper/springer methods article used 70% ethanol, never saw Bacdown come up on any paper.

Second lab:

Was told not to spray/wipe outside of flask with anything before placing into biosafety cabinet, but again always treat outside of flask as non-sterile. (other supplies sprayed with 70% ethanol before placing into biosafety cabinet.

Was told Bacdown is bad due to residue build up and difficulty removing residue.

Do you spray serological pipettes (with sterile package on) with 70% ethanol before placing into BSC? One side of the package is paper, I have always wondered if spraying will cause ethanol to leak into the package and potentially cause chemical contamination in cell culture.

I feel that there is a lack of consensus on how to execute sterile techniques in cell culture and really varies from lab to lab, many people I know do certain things certain way only because they were taught to do it that way from someone else.
