You may use 4% stacking and 10% resolving gel to perform Discontinuous SDS-PAGE. 56kDa protein will be resolved nicely.

for a protein size around 56 KDA following percentages should work well

Stacking gel = 4%

Resolving gel= 10-12%

Additionally check the pH / isoelectric point of your protein, it will provide you better understanding of the resolution options. Hope it works for you.
