I have access to ankom fiber analyzer which is mostly useful for measuring ADF, NDF and crude fiber for animal food. I want to do preliminary test to see if my fruits have prebiotic activity, therefore I need to measure the fiber, but I dont know the values which this equipment give me can be helpful approximately? Thank you very much

Acid detergent Fibre (ADF) determination measures the least digestible portion of feed/food materials which includes lignin, cellulose, silica and insoluble forms of nitrogen but not hemicellulose. Nutrient Detergent Fibre (NDF) determination involves determination of plant pectins, proteins, sugar and lipids but not cellulose, lignin and hemicellulose. Crude fibre determination involves obtaining the products of acid and alkaline digestion of food/feed materials. Determination of ADF is more relevant to determination of prebiotics than NDF and Cf determinations.

Very approxymately, as a large part of fiber in fruits is pectin, which is largely degraded during the ADF/NDF procedures but is relevant for probiotic growth. Alcohol insolubles solids are usually faster and would be relevant for comparing fibre contents in fruits (not starchy, not rich in proteins) if you are afraid of the lengthy incubations and tricky filtratinos of AOAC method (which is actually also not very good for pectins)
