I've never tried with 70% isopropanol but I've used HCl-isopropanol 100 ul/well, preparing 0.04 N HCl in isopropanol (as Mosmann described) and it works fine.

The best solvent combination I have found for this purpose is a 1:1 mixture of 100% EtOH and DMSO.

We have used 95% EtOH to dissolve the crystals and it worked fine. I’ve also found that the most common solvents are DMSO and pure isopropanol, but there is this article where they use 70% isopropanol for the MTT assay and read OD at 420 nm absorbance:
