What would be the best stabilizing agent/surfactant for nanoparticles of silica in aprotic solvent?

Misha, actually the subject of my question was about surfactants adsorpton of which on the surface of nanoparticles would prevent coalescence / agglomeration. Grafting of various alkoxy groups through their reaction with surface silanols - is another possibility. But I am trying to find a reliable surfactant for nanoparticles to form a colloidal dispersion in such a solvent like Dimethylformamide.

Did you already observed that particles agglomerate in DMF. Do you try to disperse a powder like Aerosil?
No (not Aerosil). We tried to synthesize nanoparticles by sol-gel method from TEOS in DMF. But the solution obtained was opaque.

our experience has shown that fumed silica particles form stable dispersion in DMSO without any additives.
