I have received Mcf-7 and MBA-MD 231 cells from cell repository. The media composition provided in pamphlet received says 0.01mg/ml insulin added to the medium. I don't have insulin at present with me. Any suggestions for insulin replacement?
in my case I cultured MDA-MB 231 cell media condition like this.
high glucose DMEM + 10% FBS + P/S don't need insulin
For MCF-7 cells you dont need insulin. We use MEM + 10 % FBS + P/S.
MCf-7 cells have receptors for insulin so they are needed t be maintained in in insulin.Otherwise with the increase in passage no the receptor will become insensitive to insulin. what you can do just make the some freezes and when you have insulin he revive them.
You do not need to add Insulin for culturing MCF7 and MDA-MB-231. They grow well in 10%FBS+DMEM
