Usually there are 20 or more authors from five or more universities in a single research article published in Nature or Cell. How does this collaboration works? How to get into such collaborations?
I'm a business professor - articles in our fields tend to be solo works, or have one or 2 co-authors. Having large numbers of collaborators seems to be more common in the sciences.
I have never been a part of a very large team.....still if for example an experiment is carried out in the large Hadron Collider...there will be different teams looking after different aspects of such a large system...results of such experiments when reported is likely to involve a large number of authors....I guess that the first author among them is the one who have contributed most significantly.....
Not always. I made the experience that the most influental author is usually listed first. In some cases he might have contributed nothing but putting his name on the paper just to promote the article.
Thanks for your clarification...I felt that if the author is so influential and cares about the integrity and authenticity of the publication...he will most likely prevent his name from appearing as the first author...otherwise his name has only ornamental value......
