I usually pre-prepare media with antibiotics and put in on the shelf for quick access (like doing minipreps). I wonder if that would effect the antibiotics in the media and if it would cause any troubles?
Yes it should be fine but may depend on the antibiotic. Tetracycline is light sensitive. Amp does not have a long shelf life at room temp, I would only use amp broth for a week.
Yup, it is fine to leave the LB supplemented with an antibiotic (LB dispensed in plates/LB plates) at room temperature. Since most antibiotics are heat sensitive, it is not advised to re-heat/melt the media which is already supplemented with antibiotics.
I agree with Dr. Benedik and Bhavya, you can leave your media supplemented with antibiotics at room temperature (which is usually considered 21-22 ºC ) but you should check the antibiotic's properties like light sensitivity and heat tolerance before doing so. If your lab temperature is above 25 ºC it is recommended to keep your antibiotic-amended media at ºC. Ampicillin, the most commonly used antibiotic can tolerate heat 37-40 ºC while Kanamycin can more than 100 ºC. So it depends on the type of antibiotic you using.
