I'm looking for an appropriate journal in which to publish the dissertation research of one of my undergraduate Psychology students. This student died by suicide recently, so I wanted to get their dissertation published to honour them, and as a gesture for their family. I would edit it, but ideally would like to change as little as possible, so that their voice was preserved in the final publication.
What journals are currently in operation that have a focus on first-time publications in Psychology? I understand that the BPS' PsyPAG is currently on hiatus.
That is a lovely gesture. I wondered if it might be something The Psychologist could help with? If not as the entire piece of work, more as a description of the study and an obituary to the student? Potentially including their family also?
Alternatively, if you feel the work is of a publishable standard I'd consider it as a short report for a relevant journal concerned with the topic your student was researching, alerting the editor on submission of the context of the work.
I've had similar experiences when a student died and in most cases the work itself wasn't suitable for publication (perhaps as it was unfinished, or never designed for that purpose) but it was deliverable in a poster, short report, or blog post. All of which documented the work and was separately accompanied by a memorial to the student.
