Carrying a lab based test using MCF-7 cancer cell line and humanized Amylin requires approval from ethics? And if it does which type of ethics in specific?
Any research work using human cell line (needs a BSL-2 lab) and a recombinant protein requires approval from institutional biosafety committee and training for those individuals, who are involving in research in a BSL-2 facility. If animals are involved in research IACUC approval is needed.
according to me understanding, MCF-7 cell line would be initially extracted from cancer tissue from an individual who is happy to donate it. if purchasing online, it is also important to ensure whether the organization selling these cell line has an appropriate legalized document or approval for its use within specified countries such as UK. That's the reason why I asked the question to confirm whether ethic approval would be required to conduct the experiment or no. I hope I explained myself.
For cell lines you shouldn’t need ethical approval. MCF7 are well established cell line. Check this link https://www.hra.nhs.uk/planning-and-improving-research/policies-standards-legislation/use-tissue-research/
That's understandable!!! What I have concluded is that, as these cells lines can also be purchased online, it would be much more convenient to look at whether the organization selling these products are using sources that fulfills legal requirements without the need to obtain clearance from a ethic committee.
