I am using Cu in Copper sulphate solution as a reference electrode. I would like to know how this reference electrode maintains potential during electrodeposition.
Aswathi Koorikkat in general the potential of a secondary reference electrode such as Cu/SuSO4 remains constant because it is a fast redox system and is not polarized by the passage of small currents. The fast charge transfer equilibrium allows the system to recover from a small change.
