Sarcoidosis is widely known to be one of auto-immune diseases which cause several granulomas with giant multi-nuclear cells derived from macrophages. In the case of sarcoidosis, asteroid body (inclusion body in the cytoplasm) is the hallmark for the pathological diagnosis. However, as far as I know, the mechanism and pathological significance of the process in which this asteroid body is formed in macrophages remain to be unknown. Could you give me some scientific report or further discussion?
