Can anyone suggest me the advanced books or articles discussing the similarities and differences between embryonic and cancer stem cells and highlights on the research development and applications to this issues .
The embryonic stem cells and cancer stem cells have been known to have much to share in common; Epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) is required for the tissue development (EMT type I), while cancer stem cell population increases in number after EMT type III. Interestingly, some kinds of tumors such as craniopharyngioma develop at the age of adulthood due to the persistent residual lesion in the pouch of Rathke. Much the same thing can be said in the testicular tumor due to undescended testes. These clinical facts strongly suggest that undifferentiated cells at the development can be the potential cancer-initiating cells by sharing the same survival and proliferation/ migration/ metastatic signals; Wnt, Shh, Hippo, TGF-beta etc.
