We want to analyze autophagy in breast cancer cell line, MCF-7. I have searched for bec-1 expression but didn’t find any results. Therefore, if anyone has already investigated this subject kindly let us know. Of course, we will measure Bec-1 expression. But we first want to know the cell line is contained bec-1.

Beclin 1, the mammalian orthologue of yeast Atg6, has a central role in autophagy, a process of programmed cell survival, which is increased during periods of cell stress and extinguished during the cell cycle. That is why Bec1 is universally expressed in any kind of normal and cancer cells. However, quantitative PCR should be performed to know how much Bec1 is expressed in MCF-7 as compared with other breast cancer cells.

levels of endogenous Beclin 1" in the following article.. This support your recommendation about quantitative assay of Bec1 expression to see how much Bec1 is expressed in the cell line.

However, you have to confirm that the expression level of Bec1 in MCF7 is undetectable, since these days the contamination with other cancer cell lines are always checked in the peer review.
