Orchids are monocots. After asymbiotic germination protocorms are produced. If we use these protocorms as explant or protocorm, derived plantlets as explant source, can we designate them as "cotyledonary explants"? I am attaching a paper along with my question to clarify my point. In this paper, the author has worked on a very different species which is a dicot. They have used the cotyledonary nodes obtained after the seed germination. In case of orchids, as they are monocots, can protocorms also be caleld cotyledonary explants?
