Yes you can easily observe your cell growth with the help of an inverted microscope, also you have to have suitable objective lens magnificent like 4X, 10X, 20X and 40X You can purchase from any of the giant manufactures like Nicon, Olympus or Lica; if you want to continuously monitor the cell activity (mostly not necessary) then you need and photo documentation setup (camera with control and computer) and attached incubator with controlled monitor for it; almost all the brand holder's are selling their product.
For proper visualization of your cells try to focus at 20X objective this give's more idea about cell attachment and morphology etc

I do not have problem observing cell growth under inverted microscope using 4X or 10X objective. But, you need to deliberate how you culture the cells, which kind of container, what kind of microscope, etc. so people will be able to help you.
