I would like to quantify the systemic levels of TGF-B1 in human patients. My previous experience was with Biolegend in primary human cells but I'm not finding clinical papers that used the kit from Biolegend. R&D systems's kit has much more citations. Has anyone any experience on cytokines measurement on human samples?

Hi Daniel,
First I must admit that I am not an expert in this area but I have extensive experience in ELISA related assays. You can give a y with abcam TGF beta 1 Human ELISA Kit (ab100647). My experience is that abcam's products are usually good and reliable and since the kit mentioned has been specifically designed for the quantitative measurement of Human TGF beta 1 in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants, it should work for your purpose.

I've used the TGF-b1 Emax ELISA from Promega for measuring TGF-b1 in conditioned media from HK2 human renal cells, with excellent results over a four year period.
If you have access to the Luminex technology. I recommend Bio-Plex Pro TGF-β ™ 3-plex Assay (171-W4001M).
This kit allows to quantified TGF beta isoforms 1, 2 and 3 (The different isoforms are not always well separated in ELISA). The dynamic range is wider than ELISA. It is robust easy to use.
Biosource, camarillo Ca kits. Must use plasma because platelets constitute a potent source of TGF beta. I used Diatube-H vacutainers (BD) which prevent platelet degranulation.

I will order R&D ELISA kit. Unfortunately, I have no access to Luminex technology although I understand the benefits of evaluate the 3 isoforms in same assay.I was not aware of the risk of contamination with platelets.
I have tested my human samples with Quantikine ELISA TGF-beta 1 kit (R&D) and it works perfectly just following the manufacture's protocol. Thank you all for your inputs.
