Buffer system for Bacterial co-Incubation?

So, I need to grow two bacteria in one medium without letting the pH go below 5.5 and without any negative effect on bacterial growth. Which buffer would be more suitable? I read on Sigma that phosphate buffers would be best, but I want to double-check with someone who has done this before. Thank you!
