It seems that this method has advantages over PFGE when it comes to distinguishing bacterial strains, however the principle of this method remains elusive. What I do not understand is the use of "casettes" in PCR post restriction.
I recommend you this paper :http://www.microbiologyresearch.org/docserver/fulltext/jmm/50/5/mjm5005.393.pdf?expires=1516384361&id=id&accname=guest&checksum=A79266A484F646D4C257DDD312FF75C8
It's fluorescent based AFLP. Genetic information is fragmented and polymorphism is analysed using fluorescent marker. Useful in cluster identification and strain typing. It's claimed to be cheaper than MLST. Discriminatory power is at par with MLST, MLEE and PFGE. If PFGE is not feasible, it could be tried.
