Will the excessive amount of TEV protease affect my protein?

Hello,

I was doing TEV cleavage and I accidentally added a 1:1 ratio of TEV protease to my protein(His_GGSGGS_TEV cleavage site_target protein)...Our lab use to add a 1:40 ratio of TEV protease to the target protein and I wonder what the potential problem would be in case of using excessive TEV protease. Or will it not be a big problem?

As Sebastian Schmitt

mentioned, during subsequent purification, excess TEV proteases will become a contamination band with the target protein, potentially affecting purification efficiency.
