It is apparent that, various parts of plant material are being used to treat many human illnesses from ancient time to present. If we screen the herbals for their biological action in literature, the list is endless, obviously include anti-diabetic, hypolipidemic, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-carcinogenic, anti-depressant, anti-angiogenic action, anti-microbial and so on. Generally, phytochemical constituents are attributed for their actions. However, there is no clear cut scientific report for many herbals pertaining to their reported actions. For example, while scanning the scientific literature concerning lipid-lowering action, there are several herbal products (either crude power or specific extract) have been reported for hypolipidemic activity. It is noteworthy that, while observing the data of those experiments, we must astonish. yes, administration of a particular herbal (crude power) brings the total cholesterol from 280mg/dl to 75mg/dl in rats. Still, why there is no development of drug from these plant products?.

With laymen perspective, i do understand about two gaps in this regard. Firstly, many reports end that crude power shows a particular action or particular extract, i.e. methanolic or ethanolic extract show such a action. Why there is no further research to tract the specific compound, which exhibits a particular biological action. Secondly, there is no clinical trial on this plant products.
