Why is sucrose added for the isolation of detergent-resistant proteins?

I noticed that in many protocols for the isolation of detergent-resistant proteins/aggregates sucrose is added either directly to the lysis buffer or the the lysate is centrifuged through a 'sucrose cushion'. What is the advantage of using sucrose in this context?
