as u mentioned, K is one of important macro-element and the amount of K and the rationof NPK is fixed in the media recipe. i think, to maintain the initial concentration of K and the ratio of NPK they using NaOH to adjust the pH.

Unless you want to control the K concentration very precisely, you should use KOH as Na is potentially toxic.
