i extracting the phytochemicals from the grounded root samples using methanol as solvent by soxhlet apparatus. i used oil bath to heat the methanol since my heating mantle wasn't available at the moment. It took almost 1 hour for the oil to reach 60 degrees but there wasn't any boiling in the methanol. i left it like that for 7 hours. but then, only half of the timble was full and only one cycle was done. the temperature was 90 degrees celcius in the oil when i checked.

can someone explain me what happened here?

i am suspecting this has something to do with the oil bath because, i again did the same process with the heating mantle. it worked out perfectly fine.
