According to Majid Alipour, Bahram Alizadeh, Shohreh Mirzaie & Ali Chehrazi, the eastern part of Iran is not traditionally known for its oil and gas reserves compared to the western regions, particularly the Zagros Basin, which is rich in hydrocarbons. However, some studies and exploration efforts have been carried out in the eastern regions.
The southeastern Persian Gulf basin extends into parts of eastern Iran and has shown potential for hydrocarbon systems. This area includes formations like the Middle Sarvak, identified as significant source rocks. Additionally, the geological settings in some parts of eastern Iran might have the right conditions for oil and gas accumulations, although they are less explored compared to the prolific western basins.

For this, the conditions must be met: a source, a place suitable for storage, and adequate insulation and closure of the storage.
I worked in hydrocarbon research for eight years... We found such a storage. which was in metamorphic rocks. Hydrocarbons have also been found in volcanic rocks in Japan:
In the 1990s I told a co-worker about why there are hydrocarbons in metamorphic rocks... He has since been made chief geologist at Schlumberger. Since then, these ideas have enriched a lot... I have not told them to anyone, because I have no use for them. How expensive is it to do an exploratory drilling!
