I want to work with the macrophage cell line with melatonin. Which solvent and how can I use it for dissolving melatonin minimizing solvents adverse effects? Can you answer elaborately with its required concentration, side effects, preparation method and also something else need to consider for this experiment?
We use ethanol - 10 mcl - of preparing a stock of melatonin 1mM, and then dilute in water or medium till a concentration 100 times higher then the final concentration.
It is important to use the vehicle as control.

Did you mean I have to prepare a stock solution of 1mM of melatonin in ethanol? Then I have to dilute it with media or water till 100 times higher concentration than I require for my experiments? What about ethanol percentage, 100%? And I have to use ethanol as control.
