T47D and SK-BR3 are both breast cancer cell lines, but what are the differences between them? and also what are the differences regarding the cells shap under microscope?
T47D is a Ductal carcinoma cell line derived from a metastatic pleural effusion. It expresses the hormone receptors ER and PR and is negative for Her2neu. Under the microscope it grows in clusters and has a typical cobblestone appearance.
The SKBR3 is an adenocarcinoma cell line and over expresses the Her 2 gene product and is ER PR negative and has an elongated morphology [slightly fibroblastic] .
T47D has a different antigen expression profile than SKBr3. For T47D, Ki67 expression is low, it is endocrine responsive and often chemotherapy responsive. On the otherhand SKBr3 has high Ki67 expression, is trastusumab and chemotherapy responsive.
