Which pairs (if) are the same? Which pairs are the same in sequence?
The miRNA* nomenclature indicates a miRNA that originates from the same hairpin structure (pri- and pre-miRNA) of the "main" miRNA and it supposed to be complementary to the "main" miRNA.

hsa-miR-101* comes from the same hairpin miRNA of hsa-miR-101, but hsa-miR-101* is less predominant than hsa-miR-101(from the opposite arm of the precursor). If there is no sufficient data to determine which sequence is the predominant, they are named as miR-101-5p (from the 5' arm) and miR-101-3p (from the 3' arm).
Also an older convention sometimes used miR-142-s and miR-142-as.
