We stain mRNA of EBV (EBER) in paraffin section with a commercial kit (CISH). It works well, but is only a yes/no analysis. I have no infos about comparison to sensitivity of blood tests.

Real time PCR works well on both type of samples, with FRET, you just have to prepare the paraffine samples before extraction of DNA.
