Hello. I wants to perform Antibiotic susceptibility test and its MIC for shigella species.. let me know the higher generation antibiotics using for shigella sps.
When fecal isolates of Shigella spp. are tested, only ampicillin, a fluoroquinolone (Ciprofloxacin), and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole should be reported routinely.
Only if it is resistant to all these above, test for third-generation cephalosporin (Ceftazidime, Ceftriaxone, cefotaxime).
ESBLs and AmpC beta-lactamases have been reported in Shigella spp.
Hello, antibiotic resistance is a reason why there are improvements in antibiotics and this has lead to different generations and more are still coming. Since you are doing a research I think it will be very enriching and informative if you test your Shigella against the different generations of antibiotics and then you can come up with which are sensitive and which are resistant.
So many factors are responsible for antibiotic resistance as said earlier. It may be the strain of the Shigella the host characteristics and many more.
