Nanoclay serves as an active stress transfer constituent in the nano-epoxy composites, leading to plastic deformation in the epoxy and eventually increasing the tensile strength. But, my question is how did plastic deformation occur in Nanoclay-epoxy composites?

It is well-known that when stress is transferred to the interface of a polymer and a micro filler, which has not any interaction with polymer, the filler can easily take a role as a craze and consequently the sample will fail rapidly. However, the incorporation of CLAY ever it cannot be dispersed in nonosized layers, as it has interaction with matrix, by modification and/or it's polarity, it can serve the stress through the interface and dissipate it by utilizing several methods such as untieing of modifiers of layers as well as slipping of layers on each other in the direction of test.

Dear all, may be the filler loading is still low and the threshold for its contribution to stress transfer is not reached yet. This means that the matrix is still supporting the stress, as it is in the absence of the filler. My Regards
