We all are mindful of the word Success. Even then, each one of us derives a unique meaning from it. You can obtain many answers on the web, I want to know what success means to you personally?
“Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be.” — Zig Ziglar
Success is like reaching the top of pyramid of self-actualization from the initial physiological needs of Maslow's Hierachy. It can be different things to different people. Wishing everyone all the best in embarking this journey of success.
According to the British journalist (David Attenborough): “Many individuals are doing what they can. But real success can only come if there is a change in our societies and in our economics and in our politics”. I agree on that with a little addition after his statement “to the better or to the best”.
I believe that every human life must be a lot of little progress toward improvement. Small successes are encouraging, that the correct path in the study. I do not like the big successes. They evoke a sense of desolation. Then actually need to start all over again. Everyone knows how difficult it is to start all over again.
“The good things in life are enjoyed to the fullest only if they are shared. So it is with your Success. You will only be truly successful if those along the path you took to your success are left with a reason to smile back.” ~ Anthony Samuel
Dear Abedallah! Certainly in the world there are many categories, the definition of which is crucial on personal opinion. With regard to success and failure. Much depends on the level of culture, intelligence. But these categories are.
Success or not is what people look at you but what you feel about yourself. I always believe successful or not can not be claimed until the end of your life.
After reading Abedallah's reply, "Success can not be well defined because there is no limit for being not successful," I wondered if Abedallah is a Mathematician. I am glad I am right! I just checked his profile! With best wishes, Sundar
Every one has some limited powers. Thus success is to go as far as your power allow. There are some others that can go ten time you went. Thus personal success is very much relative!
Dear @Vladimir, thanks for your explanations that success depends on the level of culture and intelligence. Since success depends on the person and the circumstances and conditions he is living, so it is rational and what is successful for one might not be for others; consequently, success can not be uniquely well defined.
To Antuan de Sent Exupery, "help me to be here and now" and "teach me the art of small steps" (from "Prayer" by A.de S.Exupery)
"Lord, I ask not about miracles, and not the mirages, and the strength of each day.Teach me the art of small steps.
Make me an observant and resourceful, that the diversity of everyday life in time to dwell on the discoveries and experiences that made me excited.
Teach me how to properly dispose of time in my life. Give me a subtle flair to distinguish primary from the secondary.
I ask about the power of restraint and measures that I have on life fluttered and slid, and wisely planned throughout the day, could see the tops and gave, and even sometimes to find time to enjoy art.
Help me to understand that dreams can not be a help. No dreams of the past or dreams of the future. Help me to be here and now and accept that moment as the most important.
Protected me from a naive belief that everything in life should be smooth. Give me a clear consciousness that the complexity of defeat, the fall and failure are just a natural part of life, through which we grow and mature.
Remind me that the heart often argues with reason.
Send me the right time for someone who has the courage to tell me the truth, but tell her loving!
I know that many problems can be solved if we do nothing, so teach me patience.
You know how much we need the friendship. Let me be worthy of the most beautiful and tender Dara Destiny.
Give me a rich imagination to the right time, at the right time, right place, in silence, or speaking, give someone the necessary heat.
Make me a man who knows how to reach those who really "down".
Protected me from fear to miss something in life.
Give me not what I want myself and what I really needed.
Success is the happiness achievement with ethics. It is the inner self peace, It is the satisfaction of good doing or good work or good collaboration, it is usually the result of fair and hard work 'professionally or socially' , it is always the result of the merit for happiness purpose.
Success for someone can be professional and private, which means,in terms of personnel, the success of family members counts, sometimes more then personnel success! The success of descendants is our success somehow!
In agreement with what dear Professor Ljubomir Jacić " the success of family members counts, sometimes more then personal success!", my late father used to say: I do not like to see anyone more successful than me EXCEPT my sons & daughters.
Success nowadays has to be seen in the context that responsibility for self-development and lifelong learning is now in the hands of the individual, who increasingly controls the development of his/her career and destiny. Accordingly, students and professionals, moving from one learning experience, project, or responsibility to another, need personal management systems supporting the notion that knowledge and skills of a knowledge worker are portable and mobile.
For making an argument for such a Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) system as well as the e-Skills development involved, I devised a framework with twelve ‘PKM for Development’ criteria which is closely aligned to Maslow’s Extended Hierarchy of Needs and integrates Johri's and Pal's four criteria of their ICT4D framework, namely: 1. Accessibility Easiness, 2. Operable Autonomy, 3. Expressive Creativity, 4. Collaborative Choice, 5. Relational Interactivity, 6. Creative Conversation, 7. Ecological Reciprocity, 8. Personal Mastery, 9. Encouraging Empowerment, 10. Institutional Performance, 11. For the Common Good, 12. Technological Progress. (see link below for paper). A current paper-under-review also uses the framework for a differentiated breakdown of the PKM’s impact on social, cultural, economic, and environmental sustainability.

The man with the child must learn to appreciate every little success (his and others). Then suddenly comes a great success will be treated with dignity.
For me success is about achieving your personal goals such as earning your degree and using your knowledge to enhance the lives of others. Being recognised by other academics as someone who has a valuable contribution to make to society from a practical as well as at an academic level. Being able to give young people and your own children the confidence to succeed in life by giving them a role model to follow who has struggled to succeed and reached their personal goal of academic sucess
In life, all things are moving in waves. Consequently, the success always comes failure. And after defeat again - failure. Rejoice even small successes.
For me success is to do correctly and honestly my chosen task, to paint fine my impressions on the world, to find some secrets of nature, to live in harmony with nature and good people but the main thing is to find my way to God. Of course, this is too much but one should approach the perfection.
Success is a journey not a destination. If we are better off today than yesterday then we have succeeded.
Here is a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson which I like:
"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...to leave the world a better place...to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."
According to me success is when you do not have any regrets from your sides from your life and you give your best to your work, your family and contribute to society. whenever people meets you they get positive energy from you. For every person success is relative terms. you can not compare success in personal life with professional life. Life should be balanced.
I would not consider success as a measurement of oneself against societies expectations or by a comparison to another individual. I trust that it is a state of mind within the person. What were their plans for life early on? Have they met their expectations or not? If you were to perform a self-inventory, would you consider yourself successful or perhaps far short of your life expectations? Conversely, I suggest considering the term success and happiness together. If success creates happiness, then we have omitted an important characteristic of our uniqueness. I would also offer for consideration, happiness is not created by accomplishments, but it determined by an individual’s principles linked to how they live their lives.
Happiness is reaching your goals by linking them with your principles. Conflict in your principles and success in reaching goals leads to a sense of loss despite. So one may not be happy even after achieving a lot.
Success in achievement in reaching goals that we set for ourselves.
Successful men and women set real goals that they can accomplish. They have High Self-Esteem, Vision , Positive Attitude and Perseverance.
Success is not equal to Happiness. In order to be happy and successful, one should find a balance between work, family and friend. one must have good Character , must act with honesty and integrity and must be generous with others.
Total success means the success at job, success in career, success in family, success in society...,....and, of course, success in hobbies. Do not exclude the success of your friends.
When I talk of happiness and success in achieving goals. The goals are obviously set by us depending on a number of factors. work related, family related and so on....
What Does Success Mean to You? wrote by Alyssa Gregory
Success is a very subjective term, and it doesn’t mean exactly the same thing to two different people. Not knowing how you define success in your life can make the process of becoming successful even more challenging. It’s like fumbling around in the dark to find something when the light switch is right next to you, if only you would stop grasping in the dark and focus on the light switch.
So, I thought I’d share my list of what success means to me (at least what it meant to me when I created it last year) so we can take a look at the different meanings of success. Success in my life means (in no particular order):
Being happy
Doing what I love everyday
Helping others do what they love
Staying true to my values
Being a good mom
Having respectful relationships with those around me
Being able to contribute financially to my household
Reaching financial security
Being recognized as knowledgeable by peers
Having time to enjoy the little things in life
Not feeling stressed and overwhelmed on a regular basis
The success is well deserved, when internal motivations coincide with the external evaluation. But we live in an "upside down" world - where all the contrary.
success in terms of business defined by two worlds sustainable growth and sustainable profit. therefore, earning enough and growth on personal, family and professional ways.
"Success (the opposite of failure) is the status of having achieved and accomplished an aim or objective. Being successful means the achievement of desired visions and planned goals. Furthermore, success can be a certain social status that describes a prosperous person that could also have gained fame for its favorable outcome. The dictionary describes success as the following: “attaining wealth, prosperity and/or fame”...
One of the most important key steps to achieve success in life is to know the meaning of success for your personal life. The true meaning of success goes far beyond the common definitions of success, such as having a lot of money, being wealthy, having a lot of tangibles and earned degrees. Quite the opposite: true success in life cannot be measured with the above named factors, but instead with the amount of people that are able to life a better and more advanced life because of what you created. This is the meaning of success. Not the trophies people are collecting in their lives. Media and society lets us often conclude that living a successful life means to be extraordinarily wealthy and have a lot of tangibles. But the meaning of success is to live a happily life and to make this world a better place for everyone..."
Measure your success by the ladder you set for yourself and not on what somebody achieved or done!”

Napoleon Hill in his great book, "Think and Grow Rich." Defines thirteen common denominators of every successfull person. Hill calls them "steps", they are:
Step (1) DESIRE - The starting point of all achievement.
Step (2) FAITH - Visualizing and believing you can attain your desire(s).
Step (3) AUTO-SUGGESTION - Influencing the subconscious mind.
Step (4) SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE - Learning from experience, your and others.
Step (5) IMAGINATION - The workshop of the mind.
Step (6) ORGANIZED PLANNING - Translating your ideas into actions.
Step (7) DECISION - Overcoming procrastination.
Step (8) PERSISTENCE - The required effort to induce faith.
Step (9) MASTER MIND GROUPS - Multiplying brain power.
Step (10) ENERGY CONVERSION - Re-focusing all sources of your personal energy into your objectives.
Step (11) SUBCONSCIOUS MIND - Connects you to personal resources you didn't realize you had.
Step (12) THE BRAIN - Powers of the mind you didn't know you had.
Step (13) THE SIXTH SENSE - The ability to tap into 'Infinate Intelligence.'
Dear Behrouz! Sorry for my pedantry. Napoleon Hill made a small but important mistake. The remaining steps in the figure 13. In this figure usually associated failures. But, thank you very much. You explained to me the reasons for failure are now all those marching to the figure 13.
Success is not a destination, but the road that you're on. Being successful means that you're working hard and walking your walk every day. You can only live your dream by working hard towards it. That's living your dream.
Being a researchers, if my work is appreciated by others and many people will refer it for betterment. Getting acknowledged by other researchers is success.
Vladimir has made a nice remark about the smile of a depressed human being. Indeed, we often speak about extraordinary performance, but success may be discovered even in small things around us, if we are just able to discover it.
