Great question. Perhaps in our eventual evolution beyond tribal yin/yang split consciousness mirrored in our sexual responses, we need to embrace each unique style of arousal to reach equanimity and evolve to androgeny. Women in our current zeitgeist have been so subjugated and this can block seeing/feeling each other as uniquely diverse but equal. In our current zeitgeist 1/3 of the women on ourplanet are physically and sexually abused so why should we be surprised that they would psychology defend against tribal consciousness splits in a male-dominated society. Dr. Elmer Green: "For every mental event there is a corresponding physical event and for every physical event there is a corresponding mental event." Our brain and body mirrors this and also points to how science must humbly discover/investigated heuristically with equanimity the true nature of our evolving species. William James: "Each one of us, literally, by what we choose to attend to, decides what sort of Uni-Verse we shall inhabit." Thoughts become forms manifest in our bodies.

Thanks Darryl for commenting. I have concluded that intercourse is an act of territorial assault in its origins. No woman volunteers for intercourse without reliable contraception unless she wants to get pregnant. Over decades I have found intercourse to be non-arousing and non-orgasmic. This is natural as the receiver of male ejaculate. It is the penetrating male who is aroused by intercourse. Consequently women are not aroused with a lover. This is why female orgasm is such a mystery. Kinsey concluded that it occurs when women masturbate alone. This is also my personal conclusion because of the need for explicit erotic fantasy to achieve arousal. Female masturbation involves identifying with the penetrating male both physically (by stimulating the clitoral organ) and mentally (by identifying with the turn-on of penetrating another person). Cultural factors have no effect on sexual response which is an instinctive behaviour for a responsive individual. Very few women are responsive so most never experience orgasm. Again this explains the mystery over every aspect of female sexuality. Men assume that women should respond as men do. But we have two sexes because they need to be different. Women's role is to facilitate male orgasm and find a mate who will support them in raising the children resulting from intercourse. Women keep men tied into relationships and family by offering regular intercourse. This is a conscious behaviour rather than evidence of responsiveness.
