Success doesn't come easy for most people. It has to be earned by dedication, hard work and strong determination. They are bad times / difficulties on your path to success. Patience plays a key character for every hard earned success.
Success to be achieved and recognized by us is a issue of vision. Sometimes, we get exactly what we want from life and yet we are not able to notice it. It is not a matter of hard work, even though it can be a key to it. Most of the times it is not the hard work which makes the difference. We work, work, work, and all of sudden we have an insight and solve the whole thing in a minute. Had we gotten that path before, we would have had solved the puzzle at the beginning.
An internally driven focus or Locus of Control — our ability to take full responsibility for the events that unfold in our lives, rather than blame them on fate or chance, or somebody else who we believe has played a major role in either our success or our failure.
A constant and consistent person trusts implicitly on someone who accepts them unconditionally, while still challenging them to be the best they can be.
“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” -Michael Jordon
If your main objective is "success" then this may give you a stress which might be a serious obstacle.
A more natural life-thesis would be to follow your path not mainly for success, but because you love your path. If success will come, it is welcomed, but this in some final step.
People that are maniac with success, finally loose their lives, even if success filally come!
Is there a natural, human attitude to science and life?
"People respond differently to tough times. Some run away form danger. Others live in ignorance. Intelligent people fight. And fighters flourish in tough times". (Robert Kiyosaki)
Something more to read on tough times, blog follows! "Problems, difficulties and hardships are a part of everyone's life. Yet, some people handle them better than others. They have developed a mental toughness that allows them to push through hard situations and successfully face adversity...."
Singing, painting, reading and translating Belles-lettres help a lot! Thinking and having ideas, and looking with amazement at well known things and events show the right way. The other things (tasks) are only routine work.
Friends, I tell my students that Learning is a process, not an outcome. And I think of solving problems, so my success is when problems are solved! So I learn to consider tough life as normal life in a tough world (as Marcel expressed).
Besides, I have been conditioned to think 'what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul'? In current language, what benefit is there if we gain material success and lose our health, friendships and family relationships? All the best to you, Sardar et al.
Thanks @ dear Sardar. I'm quite intrinsically motivated, but I work with students who are thinking of external things like grades and career. Sometimes, they don't have much interest to study and work hard, unless there are bonus marks. That's why I need to remind them that learning must be valued for knowledge, that learning is a process. If they, and we, focus on our work. success will come. And we preserve a clear conscience!
Dear @Miranda,' learning is the key to prosperity - for each of us individuals, as well as for the nation as a whole. This is why the government has put learning at the heart of its ambition...the fostering of an enquiring mind and the love of learning are essential for our future success’ (David Blunkett)
I have learned that I must not exalt excessively in times of success as I learned that I must not destroy me in difficult times. A psychological balance and proper error analysis can help. In addition, one must also have the courage to change when he cannot achieve a certain path. Finally, we must never forget that life is a spinning wheel: the wrong way today and tomorrow maybe in the right one.
To me success only come last when there were repeated failures came first as obstacles. As the saying goes "failure is the mother of success" i.e. failure give birth to success. But during the failures we can either give up or we can continue to pursue. To continue I find passion and perseverance are 2 critical success factors because without them I wouldn't know what is success. My operational definition for the 2 are:
Passion is the driver to push one person continues moving forward / further & going deeper
Perseverance is the motivator to influence the person stands up and continue the pursuit after facing repeated failures
Entrepreneur and a Venture Capitalist (also co-founder)
we call each other every morning, we still do. Like every morning at 8.30 we get on the phone with each other on the way to work and we talk about the things that are happening in our day. At the end of the day, we usually call each other on the way home and how'd the day go and what kind of things do we need to work on next. But really, like you're very much alone. Your early employees, your team, they're with you, but being an entrepreneur is a very lonely place and you'll - you may hear this from other entrepreneurs, it's very difficult. Like things will go wrong. In fact, everything went wrong for us and to the outside world it looks awesome. We've done a great job getting this Company launched, building momentum with our marketing, with our sales, with our product. But in fact everything went wrong. Our initial plan was completely wrong. We had to rework that. Our launch plan, we were going to launch in Best Buy retail. That was our play. Like build the products, put it online, put it in Best Buy retail, it's going to be great. Best Buy backed out at the last minute, we had no retail. Fantastic, it was going to be great. But we work through it. It turns out when you have an attitude, like when things go wrong, you're just like let's just figure out how to get -- how to make it right. And if you have a team culture where when problems happen, people don't freak out and just figure how to plough through it. Things tend to go in your favor
"If you wish success in life, make perseverance your bosom friend, experience your wise counselor, caution your elder brother, and hope your guardian genius."
If one lives for the search of the success, sure that (s)he will loose it. Face of difficulties, one should attempts to understand their origin or their cause, and aims to get or make a solution. If the difficulties are from external source, one should tries to struggle the wicked and make them face of their responsibilities, if face off a wall, one should have patience, perseverance and trust in God.
