I have used them profusely, and never had issues with material's effects on plant growth/ regeneration. Moreover, you avoid using agar, and no need to wash jars at all!!!

you can use disposable cups or glasses, if you have to grow the plant up to seedling stage, after that yo need to transfer them into pots. these are cheap as well as easy to handle.

Disposable glass wares are the best. Actually  you will not be able to  use the plastic one as hot media has to pore in it and you have to autoclave the tubes. 

Recycled glass jars for example those contained coffee, mayonnaise, etc. They are the best, they are cheap and reusable. I have used them always
