I have worked in both the private and public sectors in the UK and in the private sector abroad. 

In the private sector, the doctor can work on his or her own account (what we in the UK call being 'self employed') or be the employee of a private sector organisation. Whether self-employed or employed, as a rule pay is usually (much!) better in the private sector.

However, if self employed, one has to seek referrals from other sources - in the public sector and if employed privately, then the patients are allocated to you. Also, if self employed then you become responsible for your own book-keeping and any bad debts will detract from your own income.

In the public sector, although the pay is generally less, the main benefits of working there are that holiday entitlement is often better, study leave more generous and sick pay and pension more liberal.

I get the impression that some respondents would regard working in the public sector as more virtuous. However, doctors in the UK (the large majority of whom work in the state run public service, the National Health Service) often report low morale.

However, both private and public sector docs are subject to an overweening process of appraisal and have steadily lost autonomony over the past few decades, so BOTH groups are equally p£s&e* off!

Well , when I worked in India , I did Corporate work independent my regular teaching job , no conflict of interest on any level.

In Canada , collaboration is encouraged as long as it is disclosed .

Even we are allowed to work , called moonlighting ( I hope it is relevant till date) that is working 2 different places only catch they should be rivals , that is no no ...

Here in Iraq the public sector is always guiding the private sector. In fact there combination will deteriorate our country economy easily. This was easily seen when we lived the days of Economic blockade. Best regards.

I don't think that it is always possible to do justice while combining work of two sectors together.

Private money is under the control of a particular person who is his own owner. Public money is under the control of the state and is managed by a group of employees. This causes much waste because of the lack of public sector employees

I agree with what I have before professors before me

I do not see any disadvantage in combining academic work, research and medical care (in my case clinical doctor), both private and public. I think they are complementary and the experience for me has been enriching.

• In the institutional environment, both in the UNAM, as in IMSS and CSG, I have been able to develop my full potential and offer quality work (as I have been described) in medical care, medical administration, teaching and research. In all these fields, my approach has been the Social and Critical perspective in terms of theory / practice of knowledge.
• In the private environment, I have worked mainly in nursing homes (honorary work) and in hospitals / doctors' offices; rarely in relation to medical expenses insurance, frequently in a direct relationship in doctor-patient care.

No veo ninguna desventaja en combinar el trabajo académico, de investigación y de atención médica (en mi caso médico clínico), tanto en medio privado como pública. Me parece que son complementarios y la experiencia para mi ha sido enriquecedora.

• En el medio institucional, tanto en la UNAM, como en IMSS y CSG, he podido desarrollar todo mi potencial y ofrecer trabajo de calidad (así me lo han calificado) en atención médica, administración médica, docencia e investigación. En todos estos campos mi enfoque ha sido la Social y perspectiva Crítica en cuanto a teoría/práctica de conocimientos.
• En el medio privado, me he desempeñado principalmente en asilos de ancianos (trabajo honorario) y en hospitales/consultorios médicos; rara vez en relación con seguros de gastos médicos, frecuentemente en relación directa en la atención médico-paciente.

When you transfer private patient to public he may need more service as he think that he was transferred form private clinic.

In public work we have no target but in private work we have monthly target which induced stress.

Private universities require more efforts and force teaching staff to move forward what is actually excellent for the professors and assistants. State universities require minimum what has advantages and disadvantageous.
