In Iraq, in the last 3 decades, the government gave an extra marks to their students marks in bechaloria exam of last class of secondary schools for those with specific conditions such as those who their fathers die in the wars or due to terrorist works.
Do you agree with this behavior.
Do you have a similar behavior in your country?.
What are the advantages and drawbacks of such behavior?

Two things which are of absolutely different nature cant be intermingled.It may prove to be toxic.
Monetary benefit can be given - we can be instrumental in ensuring that she gets huge financial help but this activity has nothing to do with extra marks giving process.
If any effort is made by any of the teacher to give extra marks it will be a serious miscarriage of academic administration of justice according to me

There is no reason for that. If their father died during war according to the cited example, the government should help in their sponsorship and financial support. Their is no substitute to academic excellence. It is a NO for me.
Also i do not agree for this procedure which is not correct.

I absolutely disagree. But I would like to say that in Sudan we have the same experience.
This question is very important. .but some time we as academic staff have to ask ourselves; why the students failed in our exam. ....do we liked for them to be failed so they will scat from us and respect us much more? ???..we have seen many story of this case. ..I think the academic staff should relize not all the students can get success easy and nobody wants to fail.
We have to put our humanities frist and teach : the frist why they have to learn and have to success. Then I am sure all of them they will have the power to success and thanks for your teaching.

We have the same situation in Croatia after the Homeland war in the 1990ies. I think it is a rather short term measure that does not have the clear purpose; these kids definitely need support but one of this kind will not help them to be good students and finish their studies if they are not up to it. Moreover, if there is admission quota for a school these extra points can discriminate others that are better potential but were lucky enough to have their parents survive the war.
Sympathy is different from encouraging studies. Once family members are lost of course students are supposed to help on monetary basis to continue studies not by giving either marks or degrees. By awarding marks and degrees do they get subject wise knowledge!! Absolutely not.
Simply no. Please, never compromise with your education or education system.If needed, you may give compensation to them in different ways.In this regard, you have to be blind,whoever he/she is, and whatsoever the circumstance it arises.Otherwise, your country as a whole once will unquestionably be destroyed.

I am agree to give extra marks to the secondry school students for their extra circulars like sports achievements, debating, achievements in students societies, etc which build students character and shape, but

I struggled as a youngster to get "free seat" that is almost no fee for undergrad and I did . No struggle and free scores what good is it . Preparing a bunch of lazy and students who do not value anything ???

Unintentional sympathy, In the higher education system, there can be no deviation in the procedures of absolute neutrality. We will lose credibility, as we are going through a difficult period. We are trying to secure alternative housing, grant free scientific materials and books, give more compensation as compensation and substitute for absenteeism. Any question and discussion is mysterious to them, but not with fake markings

Students with special circumstances or sports achievements can be assisted in other ways that do not intersect with the principle of fairness in the distribution of seats. This method is contrary to the most basic elements that achieve the required development in the educational and academic process, especially for students who accept in medical and engineering colleges.
I not agree with giving an extra marks for secondary school students (with specific conditions), because these marks represents evaluation for scientific ability for the student, and not for other things.

Giving marks without any work done is unethical and against the scholarly principles in education.
As per our Dean Dr K N Sheth. Our university is strict and in this case I do not find the valid reason to give additional marks. Monetary help and marks are two different things
If the motive is to encourage them and encourage others to join school then the government will surely achieve their aim. doing that should be permitted on that ground.

The motto, "home, sweet home" has long reminded us all of how important is the integrity and sovereignty of one's country. Respecting and honoring veterans and those who fought for their country is actually a good thing. I admire Iraq's way of handling the situation . Bravery and patriotism are the true foundations upon which a country is built. Had it not been for the bravery of such dedicated people and their sacrifice where would have been Iraq and its educational system?

Why not? these students have much less social capital (In Bourdieu's sense) than students coming from priviledged backgrounds, so their efforts are commendable even if they've manage to get lower grades. The major advantage is that you will have more diversity in the first year classes, the major drawback is that you will have to work perhaps more with these students to bring them at a higher level. But I think is worth doing it.
No...absolutely I don't agree with the system where extra marks are given for secondary school students (with specific conditions) in order to compete other students.
of course.....In India we have different kind of reservations for those with specific conditions in getting admissions into particular college/ job
that is mostly based on their cast...i.e., backward classes, scheduled tribes/castes, armed forces, physically handicapped etc..
but I don't believe in this system too.
A student should be always be treated according to his merit and only merit
Financial/ logistic support may be given to those who can not reach to the colleges but free marks is a definite no..no.
Never recommend such extra marks due to any reason if you want to keep the education upright.
The monetary help can always be made available in such cases.
According to me there should not be any additional points. However, in the case of a more difficult family or material situation, there should be allowances, social aid or scholarships.

There is no need for that at that early age of their academic pursuit.
Education is based on merit, dedication and hard work. Giving extra credit for not doing the scholarly work is not accepted.
Dear Dr. Raid, I read your question one more time and found that the phrase: "in order to compete other students" is alarming. I think competition particularly in education should not rely on extra grades given free by educators. Thank you.
