In our case, all procedures pertaining to faculty performance are developed and agreed upon by the department's faculty. Such procedures must be consistent with the overall university requirements relative to teaching, scholarship and professional service. There is a very detailed national ASCE report and model on my page on ResearchGate "The scholarship landscape: a bridge between Rhetoric and Reality." This model can be applied to any discipline.

It depends on the overall systems of the university. My personal opinion regarding the evaluation of university is positive. But the evaluation should be based on Research, Teaching and Study. Nothing else.....

At my previous university faculty were evaluated yearly by the department chair or dean. Only once in 10 years did I have an opportunity to evaluate the dean. I believe not having an opportunity to evaluate "up" was a mistake by the administration. It is extremely important that administration is aware of what is happening at the faculty to dean level.

In the French university system, there is no individual evaluation of the teachers (Assistant professors, Professors..) by the institution. We have a peer evaluation at the recruitment or for the promotion to an upper position. Until today, this evaluation is much more on research than pedagogy. The reason is the status of the teacher-researcher which garantees its independance, even if they are all civil-servant. But, in the reality, as most of the teachers work in teams and have pedagogical meetings regularly, there is a kind of self regulation.

Since bologna process (Year 2000), the evaluation of the courses by the students is mandatory. The results are only delivered to the teacher concerned. Each year, a global evaluation of the year by the students is done and published by the university on its web site but without any teacher's name.

At the contrary, High schools (French Grandes Ecoles) have this personnal evaluation of teachers, more or less.

Dear Dr Raid in my institution there is teacher (Lecturer) evaluation but the only problem is the authority sometime ask the cadet to evaluate the performance of all their lecturer which most time the lecturer are unaware, i hope this point helps

There are semestral evaluations for every subject by the students. The evaluation of the head of the department and the dean is done in the framework of promotion processes.

Yes, an evaluation of the university professors is carried out by the the chief of department. For the evaluation to be objective it is very important that the teacher's work plan has been prepared and discussed with him, this plan must be signed by the professor and the department head and must include tasks that support the substantive processes of the University ( undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and university extension), this process in my university is computerized. Before making the annual evaluation, a department meeting is held to take the teachers' criteria about each teacher.

I dont work for a university but implement government funded vocational educational projects at Level 4 (K-12) at a national level.

The evaluation of teachers in our centers is continuous (monthly frequency).

It comprises of set attributes and has a self appraisal by the Faculty and Head of institute. This is validated by surprise in class visits by the Quality Team and call validation to the students through our call center

Post this, individual scores and action plans are created for each Faculty member.
