President Trump was declared to have COVID-19 symptoms that could be graded to moderate disease. However, he was treated like a patient with severe or critical disease (Remdesivir, Dexamethasone, and Immunoglobulins)
I believe that the physicians treating Mr Trump should not have released this information. Whilst many of the treatments administered have been suggested to have some benefit in patients with COVID-19. The evidence is not strong and there is certainly no evidence to support their use in combination.
However the release of such information can result in public perception that this is the standard of care.
I have had extensive experience with the management of COVID-19 over the past 6 months. However I have no experience with the antibody treatment that President Trump received. Nor do I use famotidine (or any other histamine-2 receptor blocker) or aspirin. Melatonin is not available in the formulary of the hospital in which I work, but would administer it if it was available. I therefore recommend vitamin D and zinc replacement. I also administer thiamine and vitamin C.
i agree with both responses. Trump’s treatment was certainly not standard of care. There’s much we don’t know including chest x-ray results for example. His team has not been very forthcoming. He has also made the situation worse by telling people to not be afraid of COVID. Rather he should have said to respect the virus and wear a mask and practice social distancing!
