Biodiesels derived from waste vegetable oil transesterification with Ethanol (FAEE) show higher peroxide values than those derived by transesterification with methanol (FAME) prepared under the same conditions from the same oil. Is that related to the stability of hydroperoxides radicals produced in the former?

Individual peroxide (PV) value of ethanol (MW: 46 g/mol) is higher than that of methanol (MW: 32 g/mol). You can find this in the attached article. This could be the fact that: ethyl ester Biodiesel (FAEE) has higher PV than that of the metyl ester FAME- both of them are derived from the same oil. But this could not guarantee 100% perfection.

This is a good question. I have have done some research on biodiesel production and never thought that the peroxide values of biodiesels were necessary until I saw this question. This is because I thought that focusing on the PV of the oil feedstocks are more important for the overall oxidative rancidity of biofuels.
From my view point, a reason for higher PV values of FAEE compared to FAME from the same oil stock and using the same procedure is that Ethanol and methanol have measurable contribution to PV. If we determine the PVs of the alcohol to be used separately, by experiment, we can know their individual contribution to the overall PV of Biodiesels.

Thank You Livingstone Udofia this may explain the reason but also oil acid value is important, however if we are using the same oil one important factor is the presence of more sites for hydrogen abstraction in case of ethanol and in my belief the stability of ethanol radical is higher
