Marcella, we share the same view. Im just highlighting the view of some who says protection is good for R&D, innovation etc (including investment). I also haven't found any studies saying so. But some claim so. This claim of others for example was highlighted by a prominent Professor (Joan Rovira) in his paper. This is the link in 1 of the paper: https://www.ictsd.org/sites/default/files/event/2009/01/impact20of20iprversion_rovira1.pdf
Thank you. Many literatures examine the impact on access to medicine, but none that I know on FDI.
I recommend this study on that topic: https://www.accessibsa.org/media/2018/01/Mercosur-EU-Free-Trade-Agreement-HIV-Hepatitis-C.pdf
Myself and colleagues estimated the impact of TRIPS-plus measures - patent term extension and data exclusive - on access to HIV and Hepatites C medicines in Brazil.
Rafiq Idris could you please let share the evidence for the claim that TRIPS-plus measures "has the potential to stimulate investment because of the additional protection"? all the studies that I know show no direct correlation. thanks!

Rafiq Idris thank you for your reply, I am currently working on a project to bring together evidence related to access to medicines issues, from all sides of the discussion, that is why I asked in case I have missed some important evidence backing up that claim. On FDI, I know one study about the impact of the compulsory license in Thailand, to which there were claims that it would reduce FDI but the evidence shows that it did not. I know it is currently being updated, but here is a link to an earlier version: Article Government use licenses in Thailand: An assessment of the he...
I also know a study showing there was no direct relation of increasing patent protection and FDI in Brazil, but it is only in Portuguese and not so recent and not available online (here is the reference, in any case JAGUARIBE, Roberto; BRANDELLI, Octávio. 2007. "Propriedade intelectual: espaço para os países em desenvolvimento". In: F. Villares (ed.), Propriedade intelectual: tensões entre o capital e a sociedade. São Paulo: Paz e Terra. pp. 270-305.)
