You should always rely on an IP professional for your last decision

That being said, there are a couple of things to consider before making the decision:

1) Where do you want to patent your invention?

2) Have you carried out a patent search?

3) Does your proposed invention meet statutory criteria (this varies from country to country)?

4) Are you going to do a patent submission of the chemical composition, the process of deriving the mixture or its application?

Answering these questions will better prepare you get an answer.

When I started this research, I had no idea that it would be such a big job going forward, so I never tried to collect data. Today, when the bacteria have been in the solution for two years and 10 months, I feel like I can't collect further data, so the big question is how do I file a patent?

for filing a patent application the composition of the preservative solution and some data on the longtime preservation of the bacteria are needed. One could then claim the novel composition, its use and the novel method of preservation of pseudomonas bacteria. As you know, pseudomonas bacteria cause infections in hospitals. Therefore, your work is important.

I'd not get too carried away. Pseudomonas bacteria are readily "preserved"/viability maintained by a number of means and moderate pathogenicity does not mean preservation is important.

If your institution is willing to pay - you have nothing to lose other than a distraction from your current endeavors/responsibilities. Otherwise, you should be concerned that this till be expensive with, at this point, little economic potential.

Phil Geis does not understand the natureof IP as a legal document. Of course, an extrapolation is fully in order, because the inventor is not restricted to one actual example but is legally allowed to extrapolate the gist of his invention as long as the extrapolation is technically plausible. This is the distiction between a scientific publication and IP.

I understand the science and am coinventor for a number of patents. It is absurd to encourage Dhamresh to make up extraordinary BS that is no more "technically plausible" regarding his very limited observation than curing cancer or living forever.

Dharmesh - this appears to be used car salesmanship. Clearly Volker does not understand the nature of your report or relevant science. You've not shared the data and I doubt you have much experience re the objective or depth of literature understanding regarding the benefit. Suggest you consider the economic vs scientific value of your discovery. It is costly to obtain and maintain a patent, and the economic value of preserving culture viability is going to be limited. By contrast, credit for discovery is likely going to the guy who publishes in peer review

The idea is certainly potentially useful and patentable. Obtaining a patent requires expert help from a patent agent and is not cheap. There’s nothing wrong with expanding your claims beyond your immediate results. That’s very common in patents. I recommend you have an initial informal chat with an experienced patent agent

Neither Charles nor Volker has the slightest idea of the work. They're in the patent business and to paraphrase the old saw - when you're an IP specialist every passing comment looks like patent bait.

I'm most definitely NOT "in the patent business", so Phil's comment is nonsense. I am an independent consultant who knows about patent searching - something quite different. Also, Phil seems not to have noticed that I was very cautious in the advice I gave - talk to a patent expert before committing yourself.

Of course you agree. Interesting - you offer nothing but displeasure - NOTHING to the merit of the casual observation offered in OP. What is your business if not patent filing?

A list of methods are available for the preservation of pseudomonas. Pseudomonas used in the bioremediation process, plant growth promotion, MDR studies and few industrially important enzymes. Now a days lyophilization is safe method in term of less genetical error during preservativeation. This method is bit costly and utilize space and energy.

But this preservation method is cost effective and have natural ingredients

A "method" you've not supported with any data including genetic analysis. "Natural" ingredients is advertising BS.

Assume there is a critical chemical/material involved - process patents are somewhat vulnerable.

What is lost by showing data? But chase a patent if you wish. As you saw, there are nondiscriminating functionaries eager to file +/- anything.

There is a risk that providing such details on ResearchGate could constitute a prior publication and thereby invalidate any subsequent application for a patent. The person who initiated this question should talk to a patent expert/consultant first before revealing more to this discussion group. PS Process patents are indeed by and large less valuable than product patents but that doesn't make them useless

To Chas.' comment - stop talking about it. If you proceed, use your institution - patents are not cheap.
