When performing SDS PAGE, and then western blotting, do all the brands of markers/standards/ladder perform efficiently? Do you have a non-recommended marker based on your experience? I am currently acquiring one, and would like to make sure that I don't buy an non-efficient one. Thanks!
We use Seeblue plus 2 protein ladder (invitrogen). This marker is good. Never had issues with it. The bands are blue, but there is a pink band and an orange band which make it easier to distinguish the sizes.

we use fermentas prestained marker, its good.
Discrepancies exist sometime but in my opinion it is because of the conditions of the run, not the marker.

In our lab we are using Precision Plus protein Standards Dual color from BIO-RAD. It is working well so far.
I think, brand is not so important, I came across several ones and all worked for me, so I'd choose by price. However, it is more than useful, if one of the bands (or better 2) has/have a different colour.
I have used all the Precision Plus standards in the past, unstained and prestained, as well as Fermentas's protein standards. They have all worked comparably well.
We use different marker regarding the targets you want to see in your blot.
Normally we use the PageRuler Prestained from Thermo Scientific. Works really fine and constant.
