Is there a limitation in the number of passages for the SK-BR-3 breast cancer cell line?
Hi Contantinos, all cell lines have some heterogenicity. The longer you keep them in culture and passage them, the more you are selecting for a population (maybe clonal) that grows faster than the parental cells.
Therefore, there is no way of knowing if late passage cells have the same properties as early passage cells.
Personally, I only use cancer cell lines that are up to p10.

I suggest you to use passages between 2-8 for experiments. That will asure you that you are actually working whit the "same" type of cell.
