“As John F. Kennedy said, it will end us instead. ‘If mankind does not put an end to war, then war will put an end to mankind.’ Modern war is ecocide, genocide and ethnocide and is not sustainable. The costs of war are enormous, not just financial but social, ecological and global. War must become obsolete if the world is to survive.”
While observing the strife I am always reminded of the a scene of the Movie 'Planet of Apes' - (version I don't remember I had seen long ago) wherein the pilots crash land and see the destruction on earth.
Pretty much - within human race, some are rational & some are not (not sure they know what they are doing). We hope the rational ones can change / influence the irrational ones through love & kindness. Hope we can use love to overcome their hatred, use kindness overcome their indifference / selfishness. If needed we still can take action to change the irrationals but 1 of the side effects can be devastating through retaliation & this can trigger the chain reactions.
Problem is on the educational level of the population. Humans and their organisms work in order to have a peaceful and long life as a rule. Poor educated people are easily trapped to the claws of a perverse industry which threatens life as it was conceived.
Dear Debra, You are absolutely right! but the problem I believe is that on one hand there are a very large number of people who are simply untouched by education. here I mean education and not only the 3Rs! While on the other hand we also find educated and well read people being influenced.
For all its progress, the human race continues to be at war with itself. The first half of the twentieth century showed the highest levels of violence and mutual destruction that humanity has ever experienced. And in the decades that followed, we faced the risk of total destruction.
A lesson in all this, for a community like ours, is that scientific and technological progress --and probably scientific thought-- is incomplete or insufficient if it is not accompanied by a humanistic approach and development.
Right now we are living in a state of to know who is better than ourselves? exploring the answers fight, killings, ruins someone's property, and everything what we are seeing nowadays happens. It's not accidentally happened so far somewhere someone ignites the fire and simply throw it to someone's nest,,, see now the entire globe was under threat, Just like Nero the king, someone silently playing their violin with wine's.
Yes to a certain extent according to Darwinism , famous evolutionary theory . Human race is fighting within itself because of the growing lust , that never comes to halt at any point of life , as long as they are alive. Look at the society itself in and around you , you will find the appropriate answer.
I do not think that we can generalize & say that the human race is at war with itself. Minorities, within the human race, instigate wars in different places in order to achieve control over natural resources or to maintain hegemony over the others. These warmongers may invent wars to prevent specific nations from progress & they are crafty in manufacturing causes for such wars. To see the fingers of these masterminds, look at the results that come out after an ugly event & do not be affected by what the media is trying to instill in your mind.
It is a surprising phenomena to see that humans are more of pack animals which can be made to act like a mob in a group mind set that devastates its species for reasons of inability to think higher and better and an inability to find better reasons and purposes as to why we exist. It forces us to question whether we indeed are uniquely different from other animals in our cognitive capacity?
Reading your answer the role of the electronic media has also come to my mind in the present era. Sometimes too much of media coverage also results in instigating others and a small issue becomes a bigger one. A small issue somewhere is beamed all over making it a world news and then mayhem follows>
I was doing my work and watching news the other day and seeing only violence and destruction all around was impelled to ask this question. The mindless usage of violent words and actions poison minds and then all hell breaks loose. Yes history may be replete with may instances where maybe something good comes out.
Unfortunately, Artur and George are right. And now one can try to argument that development and enlargement of education will help the eternal situation. I am afraid, it will not. Have a look at the events in Cologne, in other German cities and also in Sweden, Finland and Norway. What has happened was not the manifestation of gratitude. This is accurately, using the terms of Artur: Lupus in fabula…
The Bertolt Brecht citation was a 100% success. I can only add: “Und der Haifisch, der hat Zaehne und die traegt er im Gesicht. Und der Max’l, der hat ein Messer, doch das Messer sieht man nicht.“ I am sorry, I have no Umlaut.
I think the Human race “has been” at war with itself. The most successful fronts of this war are environmental destruction, the practice “business über alles” and the evolution of politicians. These are not only sufficient even too much. What you mentioned are only the icing on the cake.
Unfortunately, Vibha, I believe that only through the inner struggle of every human being is born the best of us. I do not know if this will extend to fight outside ourselves against others. It is true that if an extraterrestrial saw us from outside the limits of the Earth, it would be very difficult to understand the reason why we try hard to destroy us and destroy everything that gives us life. Maybe in a while we understand why we were able to destroy ourselves, but for now do not know give another answer.
Thank you very much for inviting me to give an answer to your excellent question and I hope this is your help.
Thanks you have given me another perspective! 'The War Within'. I had basically considered the war raging outside with other human beings. The war within is also assumed great proportions I believe - 'the continous conflict between the head and heart' the 'Stress within' as now even the conflict (war?) within is also a race the human being has to run to leave deliblitating stress and strain.
The war within to bring out the best in oneself! For better development, improvement and growth by all may also be the way to overcome 'the war raging outside'.
Most of the time, war is not imposed by the ignorant people. It is the wise and conscious ones who design the theater of wars and move intelligently to win every turn. Was, for instance, Bush an ignorant one? Was Khomeini a non-intelligent one?
