Worry is a form of fear of what may happen. It actually becomes a pathology named "Stress". It can sometimes cause irreparable damage to our body and mind.
"The worry is the reflection of our own inner repproches"
Do you worry? How do you overcome/control worrying?
Interesting & very valid question. Think each of us worry something even though different people may worry different things. Think different people may have different ways to overcome / control their worries. For me, I find comfort from the following verses from scripture that I want to share with RG members:
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?" - Matthew 6:25-27
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippines 4:6-7
"Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." - 1 Peter 5:7
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." - Matthew 6:33-34
"Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad." - Proverbs 12:25
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30
Worry is a temperament of human nature .It is the attitude of the person involve with his nature of contemplation repeating the same matter again & again creating not a problem of worries but also depression .
As a human being we have to encounter quite a good number of disturbing problems involving our family ,our activities for which we have to accept the challenge of the life & solve our problems with our faculty of reasoning .
If our temperament & nature of our behavior are creating problem of worries ,in this line we have to establish our will power by taking about 10 mts silent before getting up & in your silent experience if thoughts are disturbing in our silence ,in this case we should not stop & passing the same as a regular flow of our mind .With this practice both in early morning & also while go to bed this would certainly help to control the thoughts & thereby to avoid worries .
Worrying is a reaction and not a isolated mental conditions. The person needs a strong base for not worrying. That can be an external power which backs him up. Otherwise i see no way out.
worry indicates threat to some aspect of self like identity, needs or expectations. We worry to meet certain needs or to see some expectations fulfilled. When someone hurts our sense of identity in a certain situation then also we worry. So worrying is quite normal and we must look for minimizing the threat that comes with it.
If worrying has become a long term habit, we need to look for deeper causes like what started it and why its not reducing. There may b an indication that some aspect of our self is threatened. This is a sign of low self-esteem.
But if it happens only occasionally then we need to just learn managing time, relationships and tasks effectively. May be you are feeling low because of heavy workload or due to some minor negative experience. So try to get over that negative experience by seeing the positive side of situation and believing in yourself. Self-help believes may help you.
This is Human behavior and also Psychological disorder. The world is following different religion and other MEDITATION for this. But sometime worry is necessary.
Very interesting question dear. though its not my area of expertise , but it is said you need to develop some kind of escape mechanism fro such unwanted distracting issues. those who effectively succeed in cutting off from such unwanted issues , are really successful in life. and those who fail , they really suffer from so many worry /stress -related health disorders. such effects hamper the day-to-day working efficiency of every individual. Lets develop a habit of screening useful things and discarding wasteful things in life , though emotionally difficult , but its call of the day .
Worrying can be helpful when it spurs you to take action and solve a problem. But if you’re preoccupied with “what ifs” and worst-case scenarios, worry becomes a problem. Unrelenting doubts and fears can be paralyzing. They can sap your emotional energy, send your anxiety levels soaring, and interfere with your daily life. But chronic worrying is a mental habit that can be broken. You can train your brain to stay calm and look at life from a more positive perspective.
Why is it so hard to stop worrying?
Constant worrying takes a heavy toll. It keeps you up at night and makes you tense and edgy during the day. You hate feeling like a nervous wreck. So why is it so difficult to stop worrying?
For most chronic worriers, the anxious thoughts are fueled by the beliefs—both negative and positive—they hold about worrying.
On the negative side, you may believe that your constant worrying is harmful, that it’s going to drive you crazy or affect your physical health. Or you may worry that you’re going to lose all control over your worrying—that it will take over and never stop.
On the positive side, you may believe that your worrying helps you avoid bad things, prevents problems, prepares you for the worst, or leads to solutions.
Negative beliefs, or worrying about worrying, add to your anxiety and keep worry going. But positive beliefs about worrying can be just as damaging. It’s tough to break the worry habit if you believe that your worrying protects you. In order to stop worry and anxiety for good, you must give up your belief that worrying serves a positive purpose. Once you realize that worrying is the problem, not the solution, you can regain control of your worried mind.
Worry refers to the thoughts, images and emotions of a negative nature in which mental attempts are made[vague] to avoid anticipated potential threats.[1] As an emotion it is experienced as anxiety or concern about a real or imagined issue, often personal issues such as health or finances, or broader issues such as environmental pollution and social or technological change. Most people experience short-lived periods of worry in their lives without incident; indeed, a moderate amount of worrying may even have positive effects, if it prompts people to take precautions (e.g., fastening their seat belt or buying fire insurance) or avoid risky behaviours (e.g., angering dangerous animals, or binge drinking).Excessive worry is the main component of generalized anxiety disorder.
Worrying is a stressful reaction that is hardly controllable. I do not know anyone who does not worry about something. I am personally a worrying person, mostly about family.
Worry is a form of fear of what may happen. It actually becomes a pathology named "Stress". It can sometimes cause irreparable damage to our body and mind.
"The worry is the reflection of our own inner repproches"
A family member has worried constantly, every day of life, it seems. I used to try to encourage a more positive outlook. I once said, 'You can't worry about everything.' The relative replied, 'Why not?'
So, this relative seemed happy worrying.
But it surely does not decrease and, taken to extremes, it can become deep depression, or clinical paranoia, as our expert friends here will know.
I think as human beings it is normal for some amount worry to occur, but when it becomes "chronic" then one should seek help to deal with the situation. I do worry but use "prayer" to counteract it.
"1. Ask yourself, “What is the worst that can possibly happen?” 2. Prepare to accept it if you have to. 3. Then calmly proceed to improve on the worst.”
― Dale Carnegie, How to Stop Worrying and Start Living
"Experience has proved to me, time after time, the enormous value of arriving at a decision. It is the failure to arrive at a fixed purpose, the inability to stop going around and round in maddening circles, that drives men to nervous breakdowns and living hells. I find that fifty per cent of my worries vanishes once I arrive at a clear, definite decision; and another forty per cent usually vanishes once I start to carry out that decision.
So, I banish about 90 per cent of my worries by taking these four steps:
Writing down precisely what I am worried about.
Writing down what I can do about it.
Deciding what to do.
Starting immediately to carry out that decision.”
~ Dale Carnegie Quotes from How to Stop Worrying and Start Living
Excellent book, highly recommended. more link follows. Happy living and stop worrying to all
“If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. If it's not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever.”
My father-in-law used to say: A person is lucky if s/he stays with an old worry ! A series of worries may keep on coming on each one of us to disturb our inner peace. It is wise to look into the "size" of each worry ; if it is small-sized, then take it easy but if its size is larger then one may have to try to pass through it in a steadfast approach in order to minimize the harmful effects. I think that the best approach is to seek God's help; I tried it & it did work.
"It makes no sense to worry about things you have no control over because there's nothing you can do about them, and why worry about things you do control? The activity of worrying keeps you immobilized".
- Wayne Dyer (God bless him, died August 29, 2015)
“If you can’t sleep, then get up and do something instead of lying there worrying. It’s the worry that gets you, not the lack of sleep.”
When something does not happen as expected or happens unexpectedly causes worry. Getting affected by worry is an individual issue. We can see people not worried much under a serious situation and some getting much worried with a minor problem. To my mind worriness is an individual traits and how much one worries depends on the individual. I have a simple solution to overcome worry. That is " by getting disturbed/worried due to worriness will only damage !! So, it better to follow a habit of planing and deliberate to gradually overcome the problem which causes worry !!"
