The United Nations (UN) has made significant contributions to addressing conflicts and their consequences globally, but its effectiveness varies and is influenced by various factors. Peacekeeping operations have been successful in maintaining peace and security in conflict zones, such as Cyprus and Namibia. Diplomatic mediation is crucial for preventing and resolving conflicts, with successful efforts leading to peace agreements and conflict resolutions in regions like Mozambique and El Salvador. Humanitarian assistance is provided to populations affected by conflicts, including food, shelter, medical care, and education. The UN supports post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts, focusing on rebuilding infrastructure, restoring governance structures, and fostering economic development. However, the UN faces challenges such as sovereignty, political will among member states, funding constraints, bureaucratic inefficiencies, and geopolitical rivalries that can hinder swift action. The effectiveness of the UN often depends on cooperation with regional organizations, local stakeholders, and national governments, which can enhance conflict resolution and peacebuilding by leveraging local knowledge and legitimacy.

In order to assess the efectiveness of the UN in addressing the conflict and its consequences, one must consider how the world would look like if UN had not been established. Despite the fact that the UN wasn't able to effectively address the War in Ukraine and the War in Gaza (mainly due to the 'veto' of its permanent members), it has effectively addressed several other crises establishing a number of peacekeeping missions. I strongly believe that if the UN had not been established, the use of force would have been the main way of resolving disputes leading to chaos...

From the inception of UNO, it's effectiveness of conflict resolution is a big question. The veto power of P5 dominates the decision of other members of UNO. As a result, there us no end if Russia-Ukrain war or killing of Palestinian by the Israeli forces. The need of the hour is the democratization of this world body and it's reform. The purpose of the UNO is to establish peace and conflict resolution but it can be possible only by restructuring and reforming it.

The essence of efficiency is the effective use of authority. The UN uses existing powers effectively. However, the UN does not have sufficient independent powers.
