Nowadays, I tend to find that perfection should include the ability to accept the fact that perfection is only a goal, and that humans are imperfect by nature. Accepting this theorem is a step towards perfection. )

Quite often, following the 80-20 principle is enough as the world is quite result-oriented and in many areas, doing lots well enough is valued more than doing a bit perfectly.
Perfection is an optimization of words or attitudes or actions or work... & this is against randomness or chaos which is a natural tendency according to one of the laws of thermodynamics which gives as an example the construction of a tower which takes time to perfect but its destruction can be done by dynamite in seconds.
I have always observed that those who are more tidy & organized and who seek perfection are generally more succeful in life than those who give an "OK" to any thing including a mess.
Some persons will accuse you or me of being unrealistic if we opt for perfection but this accusation is baseless since without perfection of even a tiny piece inside an equipment, this tool may never work.

Yes, absolute pefection belongs to God but the human being CAN do his/her best to reach the highest accessible point (which is the human's possible perfection).
It depends on the aim you want or you have to follow: many times we are used or we are forced to follow the Pareto priciple which is to solve problems or to finish developments only by 80 % or even less. For Company products often we customers dont pay for 100 % solutions. Being a scientist I dont like this thinking and acting. Here I prefer 100 % solutions. So it depends on the situation to be perfect or less perfect.In daily work it often depends on the cost: Advantage ratio you want to realise or you are allowed to apply.
Actually, no one is perfect! However, accuracy and precision are very important in any activity! These behavior could be developed if the actor has intrinsic motivation, commitment, clearly defined goal and appropriate actions that take us towards the desired outcomes!
I think perfection is valued in purchasing of products, but when it comes to human performance, I think we accept that it is evolving because we are imperfect as as human beings.

Actually we hear people saying 'They are Perfectionist', and at times it is hard to believe. So I thought let me get the views of my colleagues here on researchgate.
I feel perfection and excellence both depend upon a person's intellectual, mental and physical capacities and capabilities. It also depends on his level of motivation.
Trying to achieve perfection may not allow the completion of any given ask.
Perfection is an ambiguous term and with age we concluded that it is not worth trying to be perfect. Besides, no one put up with someone close to perfect.
It is dangeraous trying to be close to perfection.
I think some people do value perfection in today's world - this can be seen from their deliverables compared with others. Reason they value perfection because their target value system is higher compared to others. They take pride in achieving those perfection & continuous to do so by raising the bar of perfection. However, the down sides of perfectionism include: hardly satisfied on what they had achieved, can't easily forgive themselves (sometimes to the extent of committing suicide) etc. Other down sides of perfectionism can be found in the following link:

In today's society, all focused on the performance, there is strong pressure to perfection. But not always perfectionism rhymes with happiness; on the contrary, this tension to always do more and better can make us eternally dissatisfied, unhappy, disheartened and in permanent race with ourselves. Maybe being imperfect can also mean being more authentic and free.

I agree with the idea that we should pursue excellence, not perfection. More than that, I think we must beware of seeking perfection. I've known people who never realized their potential due to their excessive --sometimes obsessive-- zeal for details. A writer whose style I appreciate, Jorge Luis Borges, used to correct his writings over and over again. But, he said, at some point you have to publish them !

Is perfection valued in today's world?
Regarding the 80/20 rule, the so called Pareto Principle.......meaning that 20% of our total effort produces 80% of our end results.....I would say "No" .....
If we allow 80% to be good enough, we will be happier and more productive... We will have time for creativity, can follow new ideas leading to innovation ... and last not least there might be more results which are valued.
Perfect these days are almost non-existent, although it a target for a lot of people, but they remain elusive. There is no doubt that God is perfect

We have to pursue excellence and not perfection.
It depends what it means the perfection of the world. His perfection is terrible imperfection. I value this, and that the imperfection vanished - one needs to create a balance.
Perfection in research is important; timely delivery of creative solutions with perfection is the ideal.
Perfection is not attainable and we all accept that perfection doesn’t exist, but we can use this abstract idea to “catch excellence.” It means we believe in our qualities and we want to use them to accomplish as much as we can.
Once we find this balance, we have a reason to wake up with energy and motivation every morning, because we have a challenging purpose. And if we dream big, we can achieve far more than average individuals.
Our accomplishments may be slightly different from what we had in mind, but if we work hard they will be the outcome of an excellent job, and they will always be better than the result of a lousy job.

I have observed when you learn to find pleasure in your work whatever it may be. Work has to be done so why not do it happily! You end up attaining excellence if not perfection in your work!

Definitely not in some of the foods. Take a look at the attached picture (a burger with layers of beef patties). It will be very hard for one to find out how a 'beef patty" is produced from ground beef by huge fast-food chain restaurants. I watched a document film, and I lost my appetite. Some wash the meat with ammonium hydroxide before use it to prevent bacterial. A large number of people consume such types of food here. Although I know there are some people trying hard to 'perfect' food they eat every day.

Some of the 'perfect' status can be indeed accomplished through practice, but some will never. For example, we have this term 'perfect score' where students achieve 100 points (out of 100 points), gymnastists or figure skaters score 10 points (out of 10 points). On the other hand, writing a paper, we will never know what kind of status is 'perfect'.

Dear Ljubomir ! You are absolutely right. When we deal with young children, on daily basis, we find the importance of teaching them not to leave unattended tasks. Not to give up on games when they notice that they won't win. Sometimes, it is a difficult struggle. But I 'm sure it will be helpful. The real good values of life and social ethics start at the earliest age possible, and slowly will become intrinsic.
My elder boy, of 9, has a natural tendency to cheat at every game, including chess (!!!??!!!). I have been slowly teaching him to play just for the enjoyment of the game and of his efforts to play without cheating. It has been a strong battle, but nowadays he prefers to play with me (even if I never let him win...). Whenever he makes a good move, he smiles and repeats my motus. ("you should always play to win , even if you know you're bound to loose"). That is a little step towards the path to perfection, isn't it ?
Perfection is the need of the present age as we have to face competition & also we have to make the requisite changes & if necessary innovation in our program.
For our survival in our action of our programming plan perfection is the must & we can not afford to close our eyes so to say perfection is a challenge for our survival & also to with stand in our present competition .

Patience and perseverance are prerequisites to attain perfection. Once attained tolerance has to be practiced by perfectionist to move along with rest of the world

I hope not. Perfection is the climax of boredom because once you get there (IF you get there), there is nothing else to do. I'd rather pursuit excellence, which is relative and achieved by different means. Perfection is like an enigma: there is only one answer and when you find it, there's nothing else to do. Whereas excellence has many answers, and you can continue your search in an endlessly productive manner. Great question, Vibha!!! :-)
